YOUR CHURCH

For almost 1000 years this magnificent building has been the vocal point of life and worship in Cottesmore.
The church is a Grade 2* listed building but the financial strain of maintenance and improvement largely falls on all of us.
Over the past 12 years some major restoration work has been carried out.
The Nave and North Clerestory roofs have been totally renewed.
The church has been rewired and new lighting has been installed together with a sound system.
The old cane chairs have been replaced with the ones you see today.
More recently, toilet facilities with disabled access have been built to conform with current legislation.
This major project has been financed by loans.

THE FRIENDS OF COTTESMORE CHURCH

has been formed to bring together villagers who share an interest in one or more of the following:

Any profits from these events may then be used to help finance further events and assist with other
major projects currently needing attention and funding.

The airbase at RAF Cottesmore is very close by and St. Nicholas Church has had a long association with
the Royal Air Force. A special chapel at the head of the North Aisle was dedicated to the RAF in 1945. It contains flags of the
nations stationed at RAF Cottesmore during the Second World War. A book of remembrance records the
names of those from the Station who fell during that conflict and those who have died in service since the
end of the war. A special service is held on Remembrance Day every November in conjunction with the Royal Air Force.
